It has been a few weeks since I have posted, I have been working on my very first entry for the Fab Furniture Flippin' contest. The theme of this month is "Make a Statement" and I couldn't think of a better way to make a statement than by transforming this particle board bookcase that was in dire need of a face lift.
I found this piece at a local Goodwill and was determined to bring it back to life. The sponsor for the contest this month is DecoArt and we got to try their chalky finish paint. I thought this would be the perfect project with it being particle board. I chose their beautiful grey color named Yesteryear.
Go bold or go home was also an underlying theme of this months challenge. I went bold with adding some funky geometric patterned trim to the book case that I got home Home Depot. Also, I added some planked wood paneling to the back. Here is how it looked after I got all of that installed.
Then, I stained the wood panels and started constructing new shelves. I painted everything with the chalky finish paint. It went on so smooth and had great coverage. It took about 1.5 coats for the entire project.
Once everything was assembled, I use the ultra matte varnish also by Decoart to seal everything. I absolutely loved this, it went on so easy and sealed the entire project very well. Here are some pictures of it completed!
